2 rescue from ice on Lake Superior

MARQUETTE - Marquette city police and fire personnel rescued two people Friday evening who were on ice along Lake Superior that broke off and stranded them.

Police said the incident was reported at about 9 p.m. and the stranded people were on ice off shore along U.S. 41 South near the Marquette Branch Prison.

Just before 10 p.m., city police said the two were brought to land and were uninjured.

A city police officer said U.S. Coast Guard personnel were on stand-by.

No further details were available before press time Friday night.
