April 12, 2013
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE - April is Sexual and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To kick off this month's activities, local law enforcement in collaboration with the Women's Center joined together for the Annual Teal Ribbon Event. The significance of the event is a national awareness toward sexual and domestic violence.

Also, The Women's Center, Northern Michigan University's Public Safety Services and various NMU organizations will hold a community walk titled "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the NMU University Center, Ontario Room.

A brief presentation regarding Sexual Assault Awareness, Healthy Relationships and how the walk is a representation of male support by walking in women's high-heeled shoes against sexual and domestic violence. The community is welcome to join in, and bring their own shoes - high heels optional.
