CHAMPION - Michigan State Police have identified the woman killed by a trooper responding to a possible domestic dispute as Lori Lee Lee, 50, of County Road FS in Champion.
Investigation continues into the domestic dispute report in Humboldt Township that occurred Thursday night, leaving Lee dead from a single gunshot wound. According to a news release, she was shot by a 17-year veteran of the state police.
Troopers at the Negaunee Township post said the shooting occurred at about 6:05 p.m. at a home in Humboldt Township.
A trooper and a Marquette County Sheriff's Office deputy were responding Thursday evening to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute in progress involving a firearm.
When officers arrived at the residence, Police said they were confronted by Lee outside the residence. According to a police press release, Lee was armed with a rifle and pointed the weapon at the officers. Police said when she refused the officers commands to put the firearm down, the trooper fired, striking Lee.
An autopsy conducted Friday morning by the Marquette County Medical Examiner at Marquette General Hospital confirmed Lee suffered a single, fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
The release said the trooper and deputy have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with policy, pending conclusion of the investigation.
