To the Journal editor:
The U.S. Supreme Court has heard arguments on both sides regarding the Defense of Marriage Act.
I am sure there are some people who are not at all interested in this, but for me it is a very important issue. Every parent wants their child to be free to love and have the right to marry whom they choose.
As a proud mother of a wonderful gay son, I want that for my child, too. As a citizen of this country, he should have and deserves to have the same rights as everyone else under the law.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people do not want special rights. They want equal rights regardless of their sexual orientation. It is about equal rights, civil rights and human rights not just for some but for all.
