LITTLE LAKE, MI - Allen (AL) Dale Lemire, Sr., age 67, former Marquette, Kiva, Iron Mountain, and Little Lake resident, entered eternal life Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Stanford Hospital in Stanford, California. AL had been fighting cancer and was hospitalized since March 3 while visiting family in California.

AL was born October 6, 1945 in Marquette, a son of Henry J. and Margaret E. (Johnson) Lemire, and throughout his life was very proud of having been raised in Trowbridge Park. AL entered military service at the age of 17, serving with the US Army in Germany, during the Vietnam Era, and earning commendations as a marksman. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

In 1967 AL joined the Carpenters Union Local 1510 and was a proud union member up to and beyond his retirement.

On August 31, 1991 AL married the former Sandra Boyd of Marquette and resided in Kiva, and together the couple merged their two families. In 1995, he and Sandy moved to Iron Mountain where they owned and operated the Moon Lake Motel and Mobile Home Park. In 2005, they took up residency in their new home that AL designed in Little Lake. Together, AL and Sandy enjoyed restoring Real Estate and traveling the United States visiting family, friends and new acquaintances.

AL was an avid outdoors-man who enjoyed all that the outdoors had to offer, from hunting at the camp in Flat Rock with his buddies, and camping with family, to finding him on the greens golfing with his golf buddy and brother-in-law, Dale Howell at their camp in Wisconsin. Also, with Little Lake golfing buddies at Red Fox. AL grew to avidly love the game of golf and wanted everyone around him to play the game. Indoor activity included a mean game of cribbage with brother-in- law, Ron Boyd and many hours spent playing the game with sister, brother-in-law and wife.

AL loved life, possessed a great sense of humor, and was a "straight shooter" never taking any guff. AL was a "Good Man" quoted by many and was loved and respected by all who crossed his path. He was a member of the American Legion in Little Lake and past member of Marquette Lions Club.

AL is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sandra; children, Kelly (Doug Dobson) Robinson of Harvey, Allen (Kristen) Lemire, Jr of Negaunee, April Cruz of Santa Cruz, CA, and David Paulick of California; his mother, Margaret "Muggs" Lemire of Ishpeming; sister, Marsha (Dale) Howell of Mukwonago, WI; brothers, Keith (Nancy) Lemire of Sawyer, Bruce (Marjorie) Lemire of San Antonio, TX, and Ron Lemire of Marquette; brother-in-law, Ron Boyd of Marquette, his former wife, Maureen (O'Neill) Hofer of Gwinn; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends too numerous to mention. And, not to forget those wonderful grandkids who enriched his life; his pride in Ashley's graduation from college, Jenna for making the honor roll, Kaylin who was always the first to give him a hug and a kiss, Kole and Anthony who received golf clubs from grandpa, John to whom AL imparted carpentry and fishing skills, and Aumi to whom AL was inspirational with his advice "if you want something, go after it and don't let anyone stop you." And, Ivy Grace Cruz, the only great-grandchild who enjoyed that special designation. Each and every one was a source of pride and joy for AL.

AL was preceded in death by his father, Henry; a brother, William "Billy" Lemire; brother-in- law, Gerald Boyd; and sister-in-law, Marie Boyd.

A memorial service and celebration honoring AL's life will be held in the spring and will be announced.

The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family, where condolences may be expressed online at fassbenderfuneralhome.com.
