By Iron Mountain Daily News Staff , The Mining Journal

IRON MOUNTAIN - A storage building in Iron County's Stambaugh Township was destroyed in a structure fire on Friday morning.

The blaze occurred at 3:30 a.m at 137 Scott Lake Road.

Troopers from the Iron Mountain post of the Michigan State Police said that they initially responded to a report of a loud explosion in the area of Scott Lake Road and Groulx Lane.

They discovered a structure fire in an outside storage building on the property.

Troopers said that the building and its contents were a total loss.

The residence on the property is a seasonal home, said troopers, so no one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the West Iron County Fire Department and the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit.
