NIT action begins

NEGAUNEE - A&F Construction (Ishpeming) opened play in the Charter Negaunee Invitational Basketball Tournament Friday with a 64-58 Class D win over Team Argonics (Gwinn).

Derrick Maynard led the way for the winners with 21 points. Rob Koskey added 12.

For Team Argonics, Isaac Wedig tossed in 17 points and Dan Goodman 11.

In Class E, Congress Pizza (Ishpeming) whipped Wendy's (Marquette), 81-51, behind 28 points by Joe Lyle and 19 by Jeff Olson. Eric Dompierre added two 3-pointers.

Jake Dobson (19) and Danny Koski (15) combined for 34 points for Wendy's.

In Class DD, Griffin Lawson and Mark Korpi notched 18 points apiece to lead Sodergren Septic (Ishpeming) to a 78-56 triumph over Moose (Marquette).

Doug Turnbull netted 22 points and Emery Gyr added 15 for Moose.

A full schedule of tourney games will be held today, beginning at 10 a.m.
