CALUMET - A former Copper Country resident and New Jersey Devils draft pick has been charged with two counts of sexual assault in Windsor, Ontario.

Ben Johnson, 18, was arrested and arraigned Monday after a report of an assault in a Windsor night club. He posted $30,000 bail on Tuesday.

About 1:50 a.m. Monday, Windsor police were dispatched to Metropolitan Hospital, where a 16-year-old girl told them Johnson had sexually assaulted her at a Windsor nightclub, police said. The girl said the alleged incident had taken place in the women's restroom of the night club.

The alleged assault occurred during a combination St. Patrick's Day celebration and end-of-season party for Johnson's Ontario Hockey League team, the Windsor Spitfires, the Windsor Star newspaper reported.

Police arrested Johnson without incident shortly before 4 a.m.

Later Monday, police said a 20-year-old woman said Johnson had sexually assaulted her three weeks ago at a bar. Investigations into both cases are continuing, said Sgt. Matthew D'Asti, public information officer for the department.

If convicted, Johnson could face up to 10 years if the sexual assault is found to be an indictable offense. If the charge is deemed to be punishable on summary conviction, the maximum sentence is 18 months.
