Lake Effect to perform in Curtis

CURTIS - The Northern Michigan University Music Department Lake Effect Show Choir will perform "Little Northern Night Music" at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis.

The choir is an auditioned NMU music department ensemble of 22 singers and dancers directed by Sharon Green. They perform popular music with choreography directed by Jill Grundstrum. The piano accompanist will be Annette Brown. Reserved seating tickets are on sale at the Erickson Center for $10; call 906-586-9974 to charge tickets and have the held at the door.

NAMI education meeting slated

MARQUETTE - NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) Alger-Marquette will hold an educational meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at 129 W. Baraga Ave. in Marquette. Featured will be NAMI member George S. and his recorded interview concerning law enforcements working with individuals with mental illness. For more information, call 226-8551 or 226-6808.

Conferences slated at Bothwell

MARQUETTE - Bothwell Middle School will hold parent-teacher conferences from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the teacher's classroom.

Bothwell students will be released at 11:05 a.m. Thursday. School lunch is not be served on half days. There is no school Friday

Parents may also pick up their Cookie Dough order from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Thursday. For more information, call 225-4262.

Poet Dawes to read at NMU

MARQUETTE - Author and poet Kwame Dawes will read from his poetry book "Wheels" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Marquette and Nicolet Rooms of the University Center at Northern Michigan University.

This reading is free and open to the public.

MACC seeks high school art

MARQUETTE - Any high school aged student is eligible to enter an art piece into the first High School Art Show set for April at the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center. The show is non-juried and any medium is welcome. Videos submitted have the opportunity to be shown on Channel 21. All art must be gallery ready.

Theater workshop at NMU

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University will host an intensive series of workshops from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Forest Roberts Theatre. The workshops will give high school students an in-depth look into acting and theater.

Workshop presenters include NMU theater professors Ansley Valentine, Paul Truckey and Shelley Russell.
