MARQUETTE - The Marquette mBank U16 girls hockey team wrapped up its regular season March 9 with two wins over the Cheboygan U19 squad at the Berry Event Center in Marquette.
Game one saw the local skaters claim a 5-2 victory behind two goals by Brooke Swajanen.
Amanda Gray, Lauryn Folker and Kayce Mullett also scored for mBank, with assists going to Libbie Doney, Mullet (2), Alex Paquette and Mackenzie Masters.
In the second game, the mBank girls (25-9-5 overall, 12-2-2 CUP League U19 division) posted a 6-2 win, with Gray leading the way with four markers. Swajanen and Paquette chipped in single markers. Recording helpers were Jillian Frye and Katie Prior.
Lexi Guidebeck was in goal for the local club (no saves available). The mBank squad will next compete in U19 state tournament play March 21-24 in East Lansing.
Police Cadets go 2-0-1
The Marquette Police Cadets Squirt B hockey team went 2-0-1 in recent games played in the Central Upper Peninsula League.
The Cadets tied the Marquette Elk, 1-1. Austin Ridl posted the only goal for the Cadets, assisted by Colin Bradley.
The Cadets then won both ends of a home-and-home series with Casa Calabria, 9-0 and 3-2. In the shutout, Zane Phillips was in goal for the winners.
Tommy Blemberg, Chase Seger and Julian Greason notched two goals each, while Jack Burzynski, Chase Bourdeau and Colin Bradley added single tallies. Blemberg, Burzynski, Bourdeau, Bradley and Greason posted assists for the Police Cadets.
In the 3-2 win, Burzynski scored twice, with Blemberg adding a single marker.
Ethan Richards, Ben Gostomski and Talon Bohn picked up helpers on the Cadet goals.
