MARQUETTE - A 40-year-old Marquette man is in custody after allegedly illegally entering a south Marquette home and being apprehended by the homeowner and held at gunpoint.
Marquette City Police responded to a report of an intruder in a house Friday. The incident occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. on the 600 block of Craig Street. An intruder allegedly entered the home of a family of four without permission and awakened the husband and wife. Two children were also in the home at the time of the incident, police said.
According to police, the husband went downstairs to investigate when the family's dog started to bark. The wife dialed 911. Upon arrival, a police officer found the husband, with his pistol in hand, standing in front of the intruder, who was sitting on a couch in the basement. When directed by the officers, the husband immediately secured his weapon, police said.
Police said the husband, upon finding the intruder in the basement, ordered him to leave several times; however, the intruder would not leave. According to police, the family said the intruder was a stranger to them.
The suspect was taken into custody on charges of illegal entry and was being lodged at the Marquette County Jail Friday pending arraignment.
