YMCA Killer Whales set 12 team records

MARQUETTE - In recent swim meets in Marquette and Escanaba, the YMCA Killer Whales set 12 team records.

For 13-14 boys, Andrew Kilpela set marks in the 50-yard backstroke (28.26), 100 back (1:01.10) and 200 back (2:15.65).

Sam Williams, 14, established records for the 1,000 freestyle (11:05.13), the 100 butterfly (1:02.03) and the 200 fly (2:19.18).

Colin Vanderschaaf, 7, set the following 8 & under records: 100 back (1:40.69), 100 free (1:22.34) and 100 individual medley (1:36.76).

Female team records were set by Delaney Marchiol, 8, in the 200 free (2:52.31) and 200 IM (3:22.46); and Erin Vanderschaaf, 9, 400 IM (6:31.84).

Qualifying for the YMCA state championships in the last two meets were Katy Beckstrom and Logan Vear, both in the 400 IM.

Also, the 200 free relay of Jayme Winn, Paige Whaley, Rachel Schouten and Erin Vanderschaaf qualified.

The YMCA Killer Whales next compete Friday through Sunday at the state championships in Brown Deer, Wis.
