SKANDIA, MI - Florence Beatrice Babcock, age 94, of 141 Ingalls Road, Skandia, entered eternal life Friday morning, March 8, 2013, shortly after admittance to Marquette General Hospital.

Born December 8, 1918, in Skandia, a daughter of Fred and Edith (Swanson) Anderson, Florence grew up on the family farm in Skandia. Times were hard and she learned the value of hard work and responsibility at an early age, traits she eventually passed on to her own children. Her younger years were filled with working on the family farm, caring for the cattle and vegetable gardens. As she grew older, she spent late summers picking potatoes in Sands and apples in Skandia. In time, Florence was employed during spring planting season at Heath's Greenhouse in Skandia, where she worked for many years. She enjoyed the greenhouse work, planting, caring for the plants, and watching everything grow. Her early farm years had instilled a love of being outdoors and, in later years, she assisted her daughter with her vegetable and flower spring garden plantings. She also assisted her daughter with catering events at the Marquette Masonic Temple for a time. In addition to her great love of the outdoors, Florence also found enjoyment in attending rummage sales and playing cribbage. She was a member of the Skandia United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra (Dale) Barnett and Patricia (David) Ollila both of Skandia, and Roxanne (Ronald) Teachout of Gwinn; her grandchildren, Robyn (Jimmy DePaulo) Ollila, Raymond (Sharon) Setter, James Setter, Michelle Rivera, Melissa (Wayne) McElroy, and Nicole (fiancee, Ryan Peterson) Teachout; and several great - grandchildren; a sister, Ellen Nadeau of Munising; and brother, Robert (Alice) Anderson of Skandia; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Teachout; sisters, Marie Anderson and Emma Lindeblad; infant brother, William Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Pershing Nadeau, Edward and Edwin Lindeblad.
