MARQUETTE - Two Northern Michigan University women's basketball sophomores guards earned GLIAC honors, the league announced on Friday.
Alyssa Colla was named to the Second Team while Lauren Gruber made it onto the league's All-Defensive Team.
Colla, a native of Muskego, Wis., led the team in points and minutes played, averaging 12.9 points and 36.4 minutes per game. She started all 27 of the Wildcats games, scoring in double figures 20 times and making it to the 20-point threshold in five games. She scored a season-high 22 points in back-to-back games vs. Michigan Tech on Feb. 2 and Grand Valley State on Feb. 7.
Gruber, a native of West Bend, Wis., also averaged in double figures for NMU with 11.6 ppg and played an average 36.1 minutes per game. Like Colla, she started all 27 games and reached double figures in scoring 20 times, including a career-high 26 points vs. Davenport on Nov. 10. For the season, she shot 46.5 percent from the floor, 40.4 from the 3-point line and 85.7 percent on free throws.
NMU finished 13-14 overall and 10-12 in the GLIAC and qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth time in five years, bowing out in the first round to No. 1-seeded Ashland earlier this week.
