MSHS junior varsity icers end with split

MARQUETTE - A 6-3 win over host Houghton Feb. 23 ended the Marquette Senior High School's junior varsity hockey season on a high note.

Brock Smith scored twice, while Nick Borgialli, Sam Leow, Alex Warchol and Jacob Patterson added single tallies.

Collecting assists were Nick Tuma, Leow, James Hendrickson, Patrick Burmeister, Borgialli, Warchol, Tanner Carriere, Patterson, Brendan Elliot and Noah Heichel.

Johnny Beckman turned aside 22 shots on net for the Redmen.

"The kids skated real hard, worked real hard and deserved to go out with a win," MSHS head coach Kevin Thomsen said.

"Many of these players should be able to compete for spots on the (MSHS) varsity roster next season."

On Feb. 22 in Calumet, the Marquette squad dropped a 4-3 decision.

Hunter Larson, Carriere and Warchol notched markers for MSHS.

Picking up assists were Tuma, Jared Swajanen (2), Heichel, Luke Schwemin and Smith.

Gabe Apple made 25 stops in net for the Redmen.
