Tina R. (O’Brien) Nelson

ISHPEMING, Mich. - Tina R. (O'Brien) Nelson, age 35, of 315 E. Pearl St., Ishpeming, was taken into the Lord's care on Monday March 4, 2013.

Tina was born May 28, 1977, in Marquette the daughter of Pat and Virginia (Saari) O'Brien Sr. Tina grew up in Ishpeming Twp. and was a graduate of the Westwood High School, Class of 1996. While in high school she was a standout basketball player and also enjoyed playing volleyball. Tina went on to attend Glen Oaks Community College on a basketball scholarship. Following her college years she returned to this area and was active playing softball in the Iron Range Women's League and the Co-ed Softball League. She was known for her competitive spirit and natural talent.

Tina loved her children dearly and enjoyed spending her time with them. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Tina could always be counted on when a friend was in need, often time putting others needs in front of her own. Her laughter will be remembered and was often a way of finding her in a crowd.

Tina had worked locally as a secretary/ receptionist for Pathways, Typing Unlimited, Edward Jones in Marquette, the Marquette Branch Prison, and most recently at the Bellissimo Spa. She also had a side cleaning business, which she enjoyed very much. Tina was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church

Survivors include her children Alec and Rheana Nelson of Negaunee, her former husband Bryon "Cubby" Nelson of Negaunee, her parents Pat and Virginia O'Brien Sr. of Ishpeming, a sister Terri (Adam) Ostola of Ishpeming, a brother PJ (Jackie) O'Brien of Fort Riley, KS, her maternal grandmother Ruth Winter of Negaunee, nieces and nephews Lucy, Matthew, Andrew and Joseph Ostola and Eden and Lily O'Brien, special cousins - Tammy O'Brien, Candy, Jennifer and Melissa Lindsey, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Tina was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Raymond Saari, paternal grandparents Edward and Dorothy O'Brien, and an uncle Matthew Saari.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 6, 2013, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee with the Rev. Steven Solberg to officiate. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall at the church.

Pallbearers will be Ed "Sonny", Paul, Gary "Butch", Tim, Adam and James O'Brien.
