MARQUETTE, Mich. - James Robert Wilson, age 67, of 1210 Sherman Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday morning, February 28, 2013, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming, in the loving, comforting care of his family, and the caregivers of Mather and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Born June 16, 1945, in New York, New York, a son of Dale Orrin and Sarah Elizabeth (Trevarthan) Wilson, Jim was raised in St. Joseph, Michigan. During his freshman year, his father was transferred to Marquette and Jim graduated from the Bishop Baraga High School, Class of 1963. Jim then began a long career with American Telephone and Telegraph, having seven different jobs in seven different cities, beginning in Washington, DC. On June 20, 1964, he married the former Mary Ann LaPointe at St. Peter Cathedral, Marquette, with the couple settling in Marquette. He worked with AT & T, continuing when it became Lucent Technologies, retiring in 1992 due to disability. Prior to his disability, Jim enjoyed dancing and could "Cut the rug" very well. He possessed a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. A train enthusiast, Jim amassed a vast collection over the years. He loved hunting and fishing and anything to do with the outdoors. His indoor pursuits consisted of be ing a talented and fine woodworker, creating hutches, clocks, and other furniture for his family. Jim was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Knights of Columbus. A Past Grand Knight, he was one of the youngest Grand Knights at the time he served. Jim was a frequent volunteer for Knights of Columbus functions, often going on visitations to local nursing homes.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann; a daughter, Laurie Anne (Robert) White of Marquette, and their children, Sarah Julia (Robert) Kirkpatrick, Aysha Nicole (Robert) Koszla, and Ryan Scott White; a son, Michael James (Samara) Wilson of Pelkie, and their children, Anthony Michael, Michael James II, Eli Matthew, Samuel Robert, and Riley Orin Wilson; a brother, William Wilson of Rockville, MD; sister-in-law, Carol Wilson of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Don Wilson; and sisters-in-law, Gerri Wilson and Bonnie Wilson.

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, March 4, from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service at 5:30 p.m.. Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber will officiate.
