Merlo, Decota run NCMPL tables in Gwinn

GWINN - Table runs were turned in by Gerg Merlo and Roger Decota for wins during Week 22 of the NCMPL men's pool league in Gwinn.

Crossroads Bar edged Cascade Inn 2, 8-7, to hand Cascade its first loss of the season.

In other results, Jack's Hideaway whipped Happy Hour Bar, 14-1, Cascade Inn 3 slowed down Full Throttle 2, 11-4, Jack's 2 doubled up Cascade Inn, 10-5, Up North Lodge got past VFW, 9-6, Sturgis Saloon 2 eased past Fat Boyz South, 9-6, Full Throttle nipped American Legion, 8-7, and Happy Hour 2 edged American Legion 2, 8-7.

Ishpeming Women

Melissa Murphy of Jack's III and Laurie Holli of American Legion each had eight-ball breaks during play on Feb. 19.

Legion won its match over Rainbow, 9-7, while Jack's III tied Wonder Bar, 8-8. Hickey's I took over first place from Rainbow with a 9-7 victory over Rumorz. Jack's I upended VFW, 11-5, and Hickey's II dropped Paradise, 9-7.

Ishpeming Men

In week six play on Feb. 14, Rumorz III thumped Tilden Club 16-8; Rumorz II dumped Wayside, 16-8; Riverside clubbed Paradise,16-8; and Jack's III downed Hickey's II, 15-9. Jack's 1 bested Wonder Bar, 14-10; Hickey's I squeaked past Jack's II, 13-11; and Rainbow and Rumorz I battled to a 12-12 tie.

Dan ("Boone") Mongiat turned in a table run.

In play Feb. 20, Jack's I pounded Hickey's II, 20-4; Wonder Bar stopped Rumorz I, 14-10; Rumorz II nipped Riverside Club, 13-11; and Jack's II edged Rainbow, 13-11. Wayside beat Jack's III, 13-11; Tilden Club trimmed Paradise, 13-11; and Hickey's I and Rumorz III battled to a 12-12 tie.

Pete Epper of Jack's I and David Granginger Jr. of Hickey's I both posted table runs. Joe Bauer of Rumorz II, John Swanson of Wayside and Floyd Johns of Tilden club all turned in 8-ball breaks.

On Feb. 16, the league hosted the Gus Vahamaa Memorial Doubles Tournament. Justin Jonas and Tony Noreem placed first from Jack's II; Bob Goyen and Steve Nelson of Hickey's I finished second; and Mike and Rick Kjellman of Wonder Bar captured third.

Luke Elvetici of Rumorz III and Rick Kjellman of Wonder Bar posted 8-ball breaks and table runs.

Marquette Women

In play as of Feb. 13, Fat Boyz I bounced Pat's, 6-3; Remie's Roses stomped Nickel I, 8-1; Dry Dock dumped 3rd Base II, 6-3; and 3rd Base I whipped the Dry Dock Devils, 6-3. Longshot II clubbed Blue Lounge, 8-1; Wahlstrom's handled Fat Boyz II, 7-2; Nickel II edged Remie's,5-4; and Longshot I drew the bye.

Gwinn Women

Sturgis walloped Full Throttle II, 12-3; VFW crushed Happy Hour I, 12-3; Happy Hour II clobbered Up North II, 13-2; and Up North shaded the Rowdies, 8-7. The HideAway Tribe trimmed the American girls, 8-7; Cascade beat Richmond Township, 10-5; and Full Throttle toppled Crossroads, 8-7.

Tammy Heller and Terri Olson both turned in an 8-ball break.

In week 22 results: Sturgis crushed Up North II, 13-2; Full Throttle pounded Richmond Township, 12-3; Crossroads defeated Up North, 10-5; and the American Girls bumped Happy Hour II, 9-6. Full throttle II beat Cascade, 10-5; the Rowdies toppled VFW, 9-6; and Happy Hour II trimmed the HideAway Tribe,8-7.
