City Insurance sweeps Green Bay Bobcats

MARQUETTE - The City Insurance Pee Wee AA hockey team of Marquette swept the Green Bay Bobcats in its regular season home finale the weekend of Feb. 23-24.

In game one Feb. 23, Tanner Phillips, Luke Beerman, Daunte Fortner, and Nate Bordson each scored twice and Alec Beauchamp added another goal as the Sentinels cruised to a 9-1 victory. Collecting assists were Bordson (3), Beerman, Fortner (2), Phillips, Ethan Jones, Reece Fortner, Carter Peterson and Sean O'Connor. Dylan Sibilsky made 20 saves in net for the win.

On Feb. 24, the Sentinels 45-19-2) jumped on the Bobcats early with six goals in the first period in a 10-3 victory.

Beerman and Bordson each scored three times, with Daunte Fortner and Tanner Phillips adding two markers apiece. Picking up assists were Bordson (3), Beauchamp (2), D. Fortner, Phillips, Nick Leafers, Jones and Kobie Guidebeck. Goaltender Tyler Bergwall turned aside 14 shots.

Hockey Central rolls

The Marquette Hockey Central Pee Wee B squad went 4-0 the weekend of Feb. 21-24. In the Sunday action, the team blanked host Manistique twice, 5-0 and 4-0.

In the afternoon game, Gaetano Cammarata notched two goals; Jon Jason turned in a goal and an assist; and Karsten Kamps tallied a goal. Braedyn Locke picked up two assists and Russ Modell one. Goaltender Soren Higgins picked up the shutout with 10 saves.

In the morning, Cammarata recorded two markers and an assist. Jason and Locke each turned in a goal and two assists, while Kamps had a single tally. Modell picked up an assist. Higgins turned aside seven shots on net.

On Feb. 23, Hockey Central defeated Marquette McDonald's, 3-2. Leading the way was Jason with two goals and Kamps with one. Collin Fure and Brendan McCoy each collected an assist. Scoring for McDonald's was Elliot Samppala and Holden Shaneberger. Higgins made 11 saves for the win; Braden Golisek came up with 39 stops in the loss.

On Feb. 21, Hockey Central traveled to Munising and posted a 4-0 win. Jason picked up a three-goal hat trick, with Modell adding a single tally.

Cammarata recorded two assists; Fure and Tim Muladore one each. Kamps picked up the shutout in net with 10 saves.

Wells Fargo U14 goes 1-3

The Wells Fargo U14 girls hockey team of Marquette won one game and lost three in Eagle River, Wis., the weekend of Feb. 23-24.

The local icers beat Eagle River for the first time in five meetings this season, 4-3. Lexi Anderson picked up a hat trick, while Lexi White added a lone marker. Collecting assists were Hannah Swajanen, White and Anderson. Goaltender Chantel LaBlonde replaced the injured Brian Holman in net and came up with 98 stops over the weekend.

Scores and details of the three losses were unavailable.

Sentinels, Kiwanis tie

The Marquette TriMedia Squirt AA Sentinels and Kiwanis skated to a 1-1 tie Feb. 12. Joseph Luke scored for the Sentinels, with assists from Jacob Peterson and Hogan Nemetz. Ryan Houle notched the tying goal for Kiwanis, with Cross Lakenen picking up a helper. Goaltender Preston Maki made 33 saves for TriMedia; Kyle Michelson 22 for Kiwanis.

TriMedia Squirts go 0-3

The TriMedia Squirt AA hockey team of Marquette lost all three games to the Stevens Point Ice Hawks Feb. 9-10.

The Sentinels (32-18-7) dropped the first game, 9-0, though goaltender Preston Maki stopped 45 shots.

On Feb. 19, TriMedia fell 7-2 and 5-3. Brayden Stannard scored both Marquette goals in the first game, with Cooper Anderson drawing an assist. Maki came up with 50 stops.

In the second contest, Stannard scored twice and drew an assist on a goal by Anderson. The latter also picked up a helper, as did Lucas Guertin.

Maki turned aside 46 shots on net.
