Support playground

February 27, 2013
The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

I have been watching the Presque Isle Park Advisory Committee's work to develop an inclusive playground at Presque Isle Park. What a great idea to build a playground at our family-oriented park which all children can use and enjoy regardless of their abilities.

After many public meetings and completion of a required consultant's analysis, a site has been selected that is between the Island Store and the Moosewood Nature Center. There is plenty of parking there but away from heavy traffic, has trees to shade the playground and enhance the natural setting, is close to the Island Store, Bog Walk, accessible restrooms and, most importantly, right next to Moosewood Nature Center.

The playground will attract kids who will then see the opportunities at Moosewood, and Moosewood participants can see and use the playground. This would be a wonderful complement to a family centered area.

The PIPAC plan also includes local fundraising and grant applications to fund the playground, something I would be happy to contribute to. I believe that this playground at the already developed part of Presque Isle will provide a uniquely inclusive opportunity that all kids can use and enjoy.

I believe that Marquette residents should enthusiastically support this project for our children.
