MARQUETTE - Police have released the identity of a Marquette County man found Wednesday morning next to a burned vehicle.

Samuel Louis Longtine, 56, was located by troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post at about 9:20 a.m. His body, which had received minor burns, was by a burned pickup truck near JH Lane, a private road. The body and vehicle were found on the back side Longtine's property - located along U.S. 41 in West Branch Township - and within a mile of his residence.

Police said this morning that Longtine had been reported missing, and was last seen at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Police said when troopers located his body, the fire had already run its course and the truck was not smoldering. The death was under investigation as suspicious, but an autopsy conducted today revealed no signs of foul play. In a press release this afternoon, police said Longtine was likely plowing snow on his property when the vehicle caught fire. A determination of a specific cause of death pends toxicology results.

Troopers at the Negaunee Post were asssited by MSP detectives, as well as the MSP's 8th District fire investigator and Marquette General Hospital EMS.
