Bell Breast Center earns accreditation

ISHPEMING - The Bell Hospital Breast Center in Ishpeming has been granted a three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

NAPBC is a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. NAPBC only gives accreditation to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of its performance, said a press release.

"It's very exciting to get this accreditation and we are just so proud of our crew and staff," said Ruth Solinksi, vice president of organizational development at Bell.

During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. These standards include proficiency in center leadership, clinical management, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

"The accreditation is an external validation for what we already know to be true of what we offer," Solinksi said.

Representatives from NAPBC visited Bell in January to evaluate the center, Solinksi said. The representatives reviewed documents and policies, as well as interviews with the staff, she said. Bell got its results back about a week ago.

Receiving care at a NAPBC accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services, a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options, information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options and quality breast care close to home.
