NEGAUNEE, Mich. - George "Doug" Wilder, age 75 of 140 Iroquois Dr., Negaunee, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at his home while under the loving care of his family after a very courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Doug was born February 7, 1938 in Marquette to George M. & Pauline (Smith) Wilder. He graduated from Bishop Baraga High School, class of 1956. Doug and his first wife Carol owned and operated Kemps Party Store and the Imperial Bar which later became Wilder's Bar. Doug had also worked at Simons Wholesalers and more recently at Jubilee Foods until 2011.
Doug was a very loving, supportive man who never turned down family and friends if they needed a helping hand. It could be remodeling their home or showing his love by giving a special family member a place to live. He also enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren as much as they enjoyed being with "PaPa". Doug had many hobbies some of which included camping, fishing, playing cribbage, yard work, and watching sports. Fast pitch softball was his favorite sport, and he was an excellent pitcher for many local teams. He competed with the Marquette "Old-timers" League up until July of 2011. In the summer of 2012 Doug received a "Mr. Softball" trophy for 45 years of having played and promoted the game of softball.
