MARQUETTE - Following the Gremlins' 56-47 victory over the Redettes on Feb. 5, the Houghton girls basketball team took over the top spot from Marquette Senior High School in the latest Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters girls Class ABC poll released this morning.

For the third week in a row, all four No. 1-ranked teams were unanimously approved as the top team among their gender in their class by the five-member UPSSA panel, including the Gremlins.

The Redettes remained the unanimous No. 1 team among Class ABC girls a week ago because voting took place before Houghton's win.

No. 2 Marquette will get another crack at the Gremlins at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday at MSHS.

The Redmen remained No. 1 in the boys ABC poll with Negaunee at No. 2 and Gwinn at No. 3 for the third week in a row. The Redmen and Miners meet at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in?Negaunee.

In the state-wide Associated Press polls, the Negaunee boys are up one spot from No. 7 to No. 6 in Class C.

The Superior Central girls, who are ranked No. 2 in the U.P. in Class D, are ranked No. 3 in Class D statewide by the AP. The Houghton girls are No. 6 in the AP's Class C poll.
