MARQUETTE, Mich. - Eleanor (Roos) Stasiak died January 24 at Norlite Nursing Center with her daughter, son-in-law, and staff at her bedside.
She was born June 22, 1926 in Negaunee, daughter of Tekla (Laitenen) and Oscar Roos. She moved to Chicago in 1944, where she met and married her beloved husband, Chester Stasiak on November 30th, 1946. There they raised four children. In 1976 they moved with youngest son John to Negaunee, where they stayed for several years before moving to Port Richey, Fla. While in Florida, Eleanor was active in the VFW Auxiliary and in the Finnish-American Club.
Chester died in 1995, and in Jan. 2009 Eleanor moved to Snowberry Hts. in Marquette to be near to her daughter, Patti.
She is survived by daughters Ginny(Mitch) Stewart of Glenview, IL.; Patti(Maurice) D'Herckens of Marquette; sons Michael Stasiak of Costa Mesa, CA., and John (Robin) Stasiak of Plant City, Fla; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great- grandchildren. Cousins Mildred(Jim) Wiggert, May Kifer, and Paul Remes. Numerous nieces and nephews; close friends Lia and Rudy Niemisto, and Liz Kevern.
Besides her husband and parents, she is preceeded in death by aunts Elvi, Helen, Elsie, and Lil; Uncles Otto and Albin; three brothers, Dorste, Veiko, and Tom Roos; special niece Suzanne Etelamaki; and nephew Gerald Roos.
The family would like to thank Norlite Nursing staff for the loving care Eleanor received since her arrival in May 2011.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the summer at Negaunee Cemetery.
