GERMFASK, Mich. - Lifelong Germfask resident, Bruce H. Gilman, 74, entered into eternal rest Monday February 4, 2013 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry.
Born October 18, 1938 in Detroit, son of the late Harold and Ila (Niemi) Gilman, Bruce was employed by the Schoolcraft County Road Commission for eight years. He then took over the family business, Morrison's General Store in Germfask, which was established by his grandfather in 1901. Later he worked as a sales representative for Vollwerth's Meat Company and retired in 1998 as a manager of Superior Country Wood Truss. He was a past member of the Germfask-Seney Lions Club and a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Bruce and his wife Diane recently moved to Newberry to be closer to his family.
In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his brother Robert Gilman.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 55 years, the former Diane Koontz from McMillan, whom he married in 1957; children Steve (Carol) Gilman of Marinette, WI, Jackie (Dave) Schummer and Angie (Tom) Buckingham all of Newberry; grandchildren Shaun and Stephen Schummer, Morgan and Hunter Buckingham, Pete and Dan Sauve, Neil, Tom and Jessie Buckingham; 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Thursday February 7, 2013 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Memorial services celebrating the life of Bruce H. Gilman will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ian McDonald, of the Germfask United Methodist Church, officiating. Inurnment will take place in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Germfask.
