To the Journal editor:
On behalf of our board of directors, coordinating council, member churches, volunteers, and guests, I would like to express my gratitude to the members of our Marquette community who stepped forward this holiday season with a gift or donation that helped the homeless guests at Room at the Inn have a wonderful Christmas.
Thank you to the hundreds of people who sent us monetary donations this holiday season. Your generosity will help Room At The Inn continue its mission of providing emergency shelter for Marquette's homeless adults.
As operating costs at our warming center continue to rise, your donations ensure the center will stay open throughout this cold season, providing breakfast and a place to meet with professionals from local agencies who help our guests move forward with their lives.
Thank you to the many individuals who stopped by our Christmas tree at the Peter White Public Library, selected an envelope from our tree, and purchased a gift for one of our guests. It's truly amazing how a single act of kindness can warm the human spirit; connecting with an individual to let him know that people do care and are willing to help.
All the envelopes were taken long before Christmas Day, so every guest made that connection through an individual or family's generosity from our community.
A special thank you to two Marquette groups: Pioneer Surgical, whose employees chose not to have a Christmas party and instead selected a local charity to donate the money that would have been spent on the party. Early last month their employees presented Room at the Inn with a check for $3,000!
And to Wright-of-Way Productions, who hosted a benefit concert for Room at the Inn at Peter White Public Library. Several gifted performers, led by Stan Wright, Caitlin Wright, and Robert Buchkoe, gave a wonderful musical performance for a full house. Their good will offering for us $900! We feel incredibly blessed.
As we near the midway point of our sixth season of operation, we give thanks to everyone who supports our mission and our work. Our homeless citizens face daily challenges as they strive to move forward, and your support helps us help them.
As Jesus reminds us, "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
