Betty A. Fouchard

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Betty A. Fouchard, age 80, of Marquette, entered eternal life Monday morning, January 21, 2013 at her home, in the loving care of her family, Lake Superior Hospice and Arcadia Home Care.

Betty was born September 7, 1932 in Marquette to Edward and Bernice (LaBreche) Bigger and was raised in Marquette. She was a graduate of the Bishop Baraga High School and shortly after graduating, married Thomas Fouchard on August 19, 1950. Betty attended NMU, where she received her LPN degree, in addition to certification as a surgical technician. She was employed at St. Mary's Hospital and then Marquette General Hospital.

Betty was an icon in the workplace and was very well respected by everyone she worked with. She was very proficient at her job, gaining the trust of many co-workers. She was responsible for teaching many new employees and her methods as a surgical technician are still talked about today. Betty retired in 1992 after 28 years of service. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed sewing, camping and traveling, was an avid reader, and enjoyed her trips to the casino. Betty was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family and all she was able to do for them.

Betty is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Thomas; her daughters, Susie Smith (Jim Wilson), Cathy (Jim) Enright, Debbie (Mark) Box; her five grandchildren, Crystal Fouchard, Shannon (Bob) Melka, Amanda Wilcox, Josh and Matt Box; three great-grandchildren, Travis Melka, Lindsay and Jack Gooch; and her brother, Edward Bigger.

In addition to Betty's parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Fouchard; her sister and brother-in law, Donna and Bill McCollum; a sister, Gloria Rogus; her mother and father-in-law, Helen and Frank Fouchard; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Edward McKinney; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Martin Hoholik; and a sister-in-law, Gordice Bigger. The family wants to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Stuart Johnson

Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday, January 24, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Robert McElhaney will officiate and interment will take place in the spring at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
