NEGAUNEE - The Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education will discuss new security options and superintendent evaluation goals at its meeting tonight.

Superintendent Jim Derocher will make a recommendation to the board to heighten security at Negaunee schools, he said. Derocher said he will recommend electronic locks on the outside doors and cameras in hallways.

"We talked about getting camera in the hallways for a couple of years now but were originally waiting for a grant to do so," Derocher said. "As for the locks, with recent events that have occurred in schools all over the county we decided we would like to add these locks."

As part of the recommendation, both the locks and cameras would be paid for by the sinking fund. According to Derocher, visitors would have to be buzzed in to the schools and a camera outside would allow the office to see who the visitor is before doing so.

Also on the agenda for discussion is the superintendent evaluation goals.

At the meeting, the board will elect a new president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. A new board member will also be seated.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Negaunee High School library.
