MARQUETTE - Special teams play helped the Marquette Senior High School hockey team post a 5-2 win over Jackson United Saturday in downstate East Lansing.
A shorthanded tally by Cole Rieboldt and a power play marker by McKinley Larson late in the third period sealed the victory for the Redmen (3-11).
"The key was playing our system," MSHS head coach Mike L'Huillier said. "It's starting to work for us."
He said Rieboldt shot the puck from the center red line and the puck "hit the goalie's stick the wrong way" for a goal.
"And Larson scored a nice goal off a lot of nice passes," L'Huillier added. "He got a rebound."
Jake Phillips, Cam Verigin and Cam Place also scored for MSHS. Shawn Cornock recorded three assists.
Marquette goaltender Evan Kyle made 19 saves (7-6-6), while Jackson United netminder Jake Waggener came up with 21 stops (9-7-5).
