ISHPEMING, Mich. - Arthur (Art) Ray Davis, Jr., 66, of Ishpeming, passed away Thursday morning, January 10, 2013 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming after a long illness.
He was born March 22, 1946, in Rhinelander, WI. son of the late Arthur R. and Evie Davis.
Art served in the Navy from 1963 - 1967. He was aboard the U.S.S. Du Pont DDS - 941 as a radio operator during the Vietnam Era. He received the Navy Expeditionary Medal (Dominican Republic) and the National Defense Service medal. Art also marched in General McArthur's funeral procession.

Art was employed for 25 years as an iron worker out of local 783 in Marquette.
Art was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 114 Greenwood location and past commander as well as past district commander. He was a member of the Sons of Legion Greenwood Post and a member of the VFW Post # 4573 in Ishpeming and also the Am Vets.
Art is survived by his wife Sherri, 2 daughters, Tara (Jessie) Simmons of Menominee, MI and Rebecca Cardinal (Steven Batiste) of Lac du Flambeau, WI. 2 brothers, James (Pauline) Hastings of Ishpeming and John David of Autrain, sister Deborah (David) Reed of Autrain, 7 grandchildren; Corey, Dustin and Kayla Simmons, Brayden, Lil Steve, Michael, Leenah Batiste and 1 great grandchild Lilly Simmons. Several nieces and nephews and a very special friend Jimmer Maki. He is proceeded in death by daughter Heather Cardinal, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 10-11 am at the Racine Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg officiating. The Vietnam Veterans Chapter 380 will conduct military honors. Following the services, a luncheon will take place at the American Legion Post 114 in Greenwood.
