David B. Tarvainen

CHAMPION, Mich. - David B. Tarvainen, age 44 of 3752 Co. Rd. FK Champion, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his home while in the loving care of his family and UP Home Health and Hospice after battling cancer for the past 1 1/2 years.

David was born on January 17, 1968 in Wareham, Massachusetts to the late Clarence & Josephine (Milliken) Tarvainen. David's family moved from Massachusetts in 1972 to the UP of Michigan and he has resided in Champion since that time. He was a 1986 graduate of Westwood High School and he attended Northern Michigan University for 2 years. He was employed by the United States Postal Service working at many local Post Offices including, Ishpeming, Negaunee, Republic, Champion, L'Anse and Baraga.

David enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling and spending time at camp on Third Lake near L'Anse. He was an excellent craftsman who enjoyed woodworking. David was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and was a shareholder of the team as well.

David is survived by his wife Diana (Gothman) Tarvainen, whom he married on October 14, 2000, a sister Sharon Chartier of Ishpeming, brothers Michael Tarvainen of Champion and Donald Tarvainen of Hampton, VA, nieces and nephews Alicia, Malarie, Danielle, Patrick, Brooke, Jolene, Nicholas, Jeffrey and Jessica along with great nieces, great nephews, an uncle Bob Tarvainen and numerous cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Josephine and a brother Jim Tarvainen in 2002.

A celebration of David's life will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with Rev. Mark Reinsch officiating. David's family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00pm until the time of service at 6:00pm.

A luncheon will be held at the Humboldt Twp Hall following the service.
