January 14, 2013
By ADELLE WHITEFOOT - Journal Staff Writer (awhitefoot@miningjournal.net) , Journal Ishpeming Bureau

ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming school board is scheduled to discuss the Best Practices incentive and changing its meeting days and time at its meeting tonight.

The board meets at 7 p.m. in the Ishpeming High School library.

At a special meeting Dec. 27, the board heard the first reading of changes to board polices that would allow it to comply with the Best Practices incentive. At its meeting tonight, the board will hear the second reading and then will be able to take action on the policy changes.

The Best Practice incentive is part of the State School Aid Act and allows schools to receive an additional $52 per student if seven of the eight Best Practices are met. By approving the board policy changes, Ishpeming will meet the requirements for the incentive program.

Also at the Dec. 27 meeting, the board heard the first reading of a proposal to change its meetings to 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month to help coincide with the financial reporting and accounts payable. The board currently meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month

The board will hear the second reading of the policy tonight and could take action. If approved, the change will start with the board's February meeting.
