MARQUETTE - The Marquette Electricians split their final pair of games to win two out of three games from the Belle Tire Selects in their Northern Lakes Hockey League series at Lakeview Arena over the weekend.
Following a 6-2 victory Saturday morning, the Local 1070 Midget AAA team again defeated their Detroit-area opponents 7-3 on Saturday afternoon before losing 5-4 on Sunday morning to improve to 6-25-7 overall.
In the 7-3 win, Marquette twice took first-period leads only to have Belle Tire tie the score. In the second period, however, the Electricians scored three straight times to take control.
The first goal was a power-play marker by Torrin Grange, who finished with two goals and two assists, and the next two were by Dustin Goupille scored just 35 seconds apart, the first a shorthanded unassisted tally. He also had an assist.
Marquette's Eric Chapman had a three-assist playmaker, while Andrew Plomer had a first-period goal and an assist, Jacob Peterson a first-period goal and Mitchell Kazmierczak a third-period marker.
Marquette held a 37-26 shots advantage as Adam Ranck made 11 saves and Bryce Leaf 12 splitting duties in the Electricians net.
On Sunday, Chapman scored Marquette's first three goals as Belle Tire built a 3-0 lead. Grange assisted on all three , while Goupille had two assists.
Teammate Jordan Frazier scored Marquette's final goal to pull his team within one with just over 10 minutes.
Leaf made 18 saves as the Electricians again outshot the visitors, 37-23.
Marquette remains home at Lakeview Arena this weekend with a three-game series against Shattuck St. Mary's at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
