Killer Whales set team records at Iron Mountain Polar Plunge

MARQUETTE - Delaney Marchiol, 8, and Carson Vanderschaaf each set team records for the YMCA Killer Whales at the Iron Mountain Polar Plunge on Jan. 6

Marchiol set a mark in the 8 and under 200-yard IM with a time of 3:26.92, while Vanderschaaf went 2:02.12 in the boys 8 and under 100 breaststroke.

Earning a pair of additional state qualifying times were Archer Olson, 8, and Colin Vanderschaaf, 7. Olson qualified in the 100 free (1:26.92) and 25 backstroke (21.95); Vanderschaaf made the state cut in the 50 free (39.31) and 100 free (1:26.57)

Individual event winners for the Killer Whales were: Lauren Clement (13-14, 500 freestyle, 6:08.96); Ryan Glover (11-12, 50 backstroke, 37.09 and 11-12, 50 breaststroke, 45.35); Kellsey Grange (13-14, 50 backstroke, 34.31); Matthew Kurin (13-14, 200 IM, 2:39.34); Marchiol (8 and under 100 free, 1:25.01 and 200 IM); and Olson (25 backstroke and 8 and under 50 breaststroke, 55.90).

Also, Samantha Olson (11-12, 200 freestyle, 2:37.25); Daniel Schouten (25 butterfly, 22.36 and 25 free, 18.62); Rachel Schouten (9-10, 50 breaststroke, 47.49); Carson Vanderschaaf (8 and under 25 breaststroke, 27.06 and 100 breaststroke; Colin Vanderschaaf (100 free and 50 free); and Erin Vanderschaaf (9-10, 50 butterfly, 42.97).

Additional medalists (top three finish) were Taryn Aho, Nathan Brown, Wyatt Clement, Samuel Fang, Kelsey Glover, Chase Hoel, Ben Luke, Lauren Rotundo, Grace Sobczak and Elina Zhang.
