MARQUETTE, Mich. - Joan P. Anderson, 91, of Marquette, passed away Sunday evening, January 6, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital.
She was born November 15, 1921 in Big Bay, MI, a daughter of the late James and Rose Anne (Chaperon) Cherrette. Joan was a 1965 graduate of Northern Michigan University. She earned a Master of Arts Degree in 1969 and a Master's Degree in education in 1972.
On September 27, 1940 she married Ralph Anderson at St. John's Church in Marquette.
Joan was employed for 15 years as a teacher at the Marquette Public Schools. She then moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 1981 and returned to Marquette in 2005.
Joan's interests included music, especially the piano.
She is survived by three children, Peggy Anderson-Ellis of Sparks, NV, Edward (Penny) Anderson of Phoenix, AZ and Daniel (Tanya) Anderson of Alisa Viejo, CA; a sister, Patricia "Patsy" O'Donnell of Marquette, a brother, Pete (Sally) Cherrette of Harvey; 6 grandchildren: James and Todd Goodreau, Daniel Ellis, and Thomas, Michael and Timothy Anderson; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Anderson in 1959; a son, Thomas R. Anderson in 2005; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with a prayer service to be held at 5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 12 Noon at St. Christopher Catholic Church with Most Rev. James H. Garland, Bishop Emeritus of Marquette officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army and St. Jude's Children's' Hospital.
