ISHPEMING - Basketball practices for Special Olympics athletes in western Marquette County are being held each Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Birchview School gym in Ishpeming.

Directed by Scott Bjork and Bob Marietti, the program includes area varsity basketball players as coaches.

New athletes are being sought, and can be ages 8 and up with no upper age limit. Participants will be placed on teams commensurate with skills and physical capabilities.

In addition to the practices, Special Olympic athletes are also expected to play in the Ishpeming Invitational tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, and the state tourney in Escanaba in early March.

A physical exam must be completed prior to attending practices. For more information, parents and guardians can call Janet Hendriksen at 346-3140 or Bob Marietti at 486-6379.
