Ethel M. Simula

CHAMPION, Mich. - Ethel M. Simula, age 102, of 375 County Road AG, Champion, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 while residing at the home of her son Tim. Ethel was in the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Ethel was born July 21, 1910, in Detroit, MI the daughter of the late Herbert and Blanche (Nash) Glancy. She grew up in Highland, MI and was a graduate of the Milford High School. Ethel went on to college, attending the Trevecca Nazarene College, Nashville, TN for 2 years. She returned to Highland, MI following her graduation from college and married Carl Simula, and together they raised 5 children. Their first venture to the Upper Peninsula was to Keweenaw Bay where the family resided for some years prior to moving back to Highland. After Carl's retirement they returned to the Upper Peninsula, this time settling in Humboldt in 1979.

Ethel will be remembered as a faithful Christian homemaker. She was a charter member of both the Highland Church of the Nazarene and the Grace Community Church of the Nazarene in Marquette, and had been an active Sunday school teacher. Ethel enjoyed the company of her family, knitting, quilting and gardening.

Survivors include 3 children: Sharon (Joe) Smith of Marion, IN, Tim (Arlene) Simula of Champion and Suzanne (David) Davison of Highland; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, along with great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1988; a son Tom Simula; a daughter Janice Simula; a grandchild, a great-grandchild, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church in Negaunee. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am on Saturday at the Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Niskanen and Pastor Mervin Pelto to officiate. Interment will take place in the spring at the Humboldt Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
