MUNISING, Mich. - Alice A. (Latvala) Clemons, age 74, of Escanaba and formerly of Munising, died early Saturday morning, December 29, 2012 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
She was born on December 5, 1938 in Trenary to the late Walfred and Esther (Orava) Latvala. After the death of her mother, she moved to Munising and was raised by her parents Walfred and Ruth (Stephens) Latvala. Alice graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1957. She moved to Ann Arbor after graduation and worked for the University of Michigan Chemistry Department from 1957 until 1966. Alice then moved to Detroit and worked for Wayne State University Science Support Services from 1968 until her retirement in 2002. She moved to Munising in the fall of 2002 and enjoyed spending time with her pets Simba, Chocabi, and Eloise. Alice was a lover of animals and she also collected stuffed animals.
She is survived by brothers Ronald Latvala of Munising, Kenneth Latvala of Hudson, FL, David (Connie) Latvala of Rio Rico, AZ, and Brian Latvala of Richmond, VA; sister Kathy (Jim) Barrow of Escanaba; sister-in-law Holly Latvala of Taveres, FL; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Walfred Latvala, Esther Latvala, and Ruth Fitzgerald; brothers Robert and Kevin Latvala; and sister-in-law Judy Latvala.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday, December 31, 2012 from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Her nephew, Matt Carley, will conduct Alice's funeral service at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring.
