ISHPEMING, MI - Barbara Welton Denofre 87 of Ishpeming passed away at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming Thursday December 27, 2012.
Born April 15,1925 in Ishpeming the daughter of John and Lorraine (Maki) Denofre she was a lifelong Ishpeming resident. She was raised by her Mother, Grandmother and Uncle Axel and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School class of 1942. In 1946 she married Peter Denofre who preceeded her in death in 1999. While raising 5 children she also worked at the lunch counter in Ben Franklins Store and at the Mather Nursing Center in the dietary department.
Barbara or "Babs" as she was affectionately known was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid knitter and her baby sweaters were worn by numerous newborns throughout the years. In her later years she enjoyed bus trips to the casino and shopping for treasures at St. Vincent De Pauls. She was especially proud of her Irish heritage and always celebrated St. Patricks Day. Known for her quick wit she will be sadly missed by her family and friends and will never be forgotten. Barbara was an integral part of the Rebeccas Lodge holding the offices of Noble Grand and most recently as treasurer. Mrs. Denofre was also a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by 5 children, Dennis (Joyce) Evans, Paulette Nardi, Michael (Maxine) Denofre and Lorrie (Paul) Holmgren all of Ishpeming and Peter Denofre of Green Bay. 4 Grandchildren, Michael Denofre Jr, Carmella Bannister Denofre, Joseph (Jiyoon) Denofre and Christine (Kevin) Ball 4 Greatgrandchildren, 5 step Grandchildren, 12 Step Greatgrandchildren 5 step Greatgreatgrandchildren also survive. Along with her parents she was preceeded in death by her Husband and a son in law Joseph Nardi
Funeral Services will be held Monday 12pm at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri Maki to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery with pallbearers Dennis Evans, Paul Holmgren, Peter Denofre, Kevin Ball, Pat Gingras and Mark Olgren. The Racine Funeral Chapel of Ishpeming is assisting the family.
