MARQUETTE - The one-time local Marquette band "Mother Shrew" will be closing out its "Lake Effect" holiday tour with a four-night stand in Marquette. Performances are scheduled for Thursday at The Orpheum in Hancock; Friday at Harley's Lounge in Marquette; Dec. 29 at The Ore Dock in Marquette; Dec. 30 at The Wild Rover in Marquette; and Dec. 31 at The Ore Dock in Marquette

Dinner, service in Champion
CHAMPION - Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Champion will host a dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve in the church fellowship hall. The public is welcome. A 7 p.m. service will follow the dinner.
NCLL offers art classes
MARQUETTE - The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present a multi-media art class in which participants will create drawings, paintings and collage. Presenter will be local artist Militza Georgevich-English.
No experience is necessary. Session I will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, Jan. 9 through Feb. 1. Session II does not require a prerequisite and will focus on different projects. It will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays in March, beginning March 5.
The cost of each session is $60 for NCLL members and $70 for nonmembers. Registration deadlines are Jan. 2 for session I and Feb. 27 for session II. Call 227-2979.
Grief support group to meet
MARQUETTE - Lake Superior Hospice, 914 W. Baraga Ave. in Marquette, will host an interactive grief support group designed to help with the grieving process by using visual and thought provoking tools. Facing the Mourning will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at Lake Superior Hospice. The first week includes keeping your memories alive, followed by letter writing, journaling your thoughts and wrapping up with working toward the future.
