UPAWS offers adoption event

NEGAUNEE - The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter will hold a "Candy Cane Adoption Promotion" Thursday through Monday at the shelter in Negaunee. Participants may pick a candy cane and receive between 10 and 50 percent off pet adoption rates. There also is a chance to have 100 percent of the adoption paid for.

Adoptions include spay or neuter, initial vaccines (including rabies), an 8-pound bag of Dr. Tim's food, blankets for cats and gift bags for all animals. For more information or to view pets, visit

The shelter is open from noon to 4 p.m. daily and from noon to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays.
