MARQUETTE, Mich. - Ruth Evelyn (Ranta) Cleary, 84, formerly of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Monday morning, December 3, 2012 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Mrs. Cleary was born on January 5, 1928 in Marquette, a daughter of the late Armas and Josephine (Niemi) Ranta. She was a lifelong resident, a graduate of Graveraet High School and Northern Michigan University.
Ruth worked in the nursing department at Marquette General Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 1995. She married William J. Cleary in 1949, celebrating 52 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2001.
Ruth was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, The Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Prayer Group, Mater Dei Women's Club and UPAWS.
She is survived by her two sons, William J. (Teresita) Cleary, Jr. and Robert M. Cleary of Marquette; her daughter, Paulette (Paul) Yelle, of Sands; one sister, Margaret (Perry) Jeanson of Marquette; a special sister-in-law, Joyce Chiri; also several aunts, uncles and nieces, especially Sandra Thomsen. Mrs. Cleary was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Cleary; two daughters, Connie Sawyer and Kathy Papciak and an infant son at birth.
At her request there will be no visitation or services. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date. Inurnment will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
