MARQUETTE, Mich. - Jerold L. "Jerry" Saundri, 76, of 616 Spruce St., Marquette, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 6, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness with his loving family at his side and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.
Jerold was born on December 12, 1935 in Stambaugh, Michigan to the late Leo L. and Gladys (Peppinger) Saundri. He and his family had resided in Marquette since 1963.
Jerold and his wife, Nancy, formerly owned and operated Marquette-Alger County Credit Bureau and the Oliver Adjustment Company until 1985. He also had worked as an aide to State Representative, Dominic Jacobetti for over 10 years.
Jerold was known to serve the Marquette community in many capacities including being very active at Northern Michigan University for decades, serving as a founding member and past president of the Golden Wildcat Club. He was also a member of NMU's President's Club, the Marquette Golf Club, American Legion Post #44 and Marquette Elks Lodge #405.
In his free time he enjoyed golfing, attending NMU sporting events and visiting with old and new friends. More than anything else however, Jerold enjoyed spending time with his family. In fact, his family was his life.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Stockero whom he married on February 14, 1961; three daughters, Kathryn (Daniel) Brugman and Jane (Don) Palmer, both of Marquette, and Rebecca (Michael) Mannikko of Appleton, WI; five grandsons, Robert, Daniel and Scott Brugman, Nick and Alex Palmer; one brother, Gene (Judy) Saundri of Iron River, MI; also two nephews, George (Shari) Stockero, Jr. and Geoff (Laurie) Stockero. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating and Deacon David Adler assisting. The family will greet relatives and friends in the Bishop's Room of the cathedral on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will take place in the Park Cemetery. Jerold's grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
