Coffee House concert at NMU
MARQUETTE - Naomi Noordyk, along with Michael and Erica Waite, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Peter White Lounge in the University Center as part of the next Beaumier Coffee House Series concert. The public is welcome. Admission is free, however, donations are encouraged.
The concert is part of the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival, which is funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
Christmas sale at Lost Creek
MARQUETTE - A Christmas Extravaganza and Bake Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lost Creek Community Center, 200 Lost Creek Drive in Marquette.
The event will include handmade crafts, baked goods and more.
Band performances in Hancock
HANCOCK - The Orpheum Theater and Studio Pizza of Hancock will feature performances by three varied Marquette-based bands: Kiddywompus, Couchfort and Revolving Doors at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The three bands will perform original music.

Wild Cookie Festival set
MARQUETTE - Save the Wild U.P. will hold a Wild Cookie Festival from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic St. in Marquette. The event will include cookies, pies, cakes, candies, quiches and dog biscuits.

Holiday concert in Ishpeming
ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming School District bands, under the direction of Dennie J. Korpi, will present a holiday band concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 in the new gym. The concert will feature the fifth-grade band, sixth-grade band, combined seventh- and eighth-grade bands, and the high school jazz band.
The Ishpeming Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps also will perform.
Free-will donations will be accepted at the door.

Pikkujoulu at Ishpeming Elks
ISHPEMING - A dance to celebrate Pikkujoulu (Little Christmas) will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Ishpeming Elks Club. The League of Finnish-American Societies U.P. Chapter and Finlandia Foundation affiliate is sponsoring the event.
Music for dancing and listening will be provided by Wil Kilpela and Friends. A mini marketplace will be staffed by Tanja Stanaway and her Heart to Finland Traveling Tori, and by Janet Wisuri with an array of baked goods.

Scrabble Club meets at library
MARQUETTE - Scrabble Club will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at Peter White Public Library. The library's Scrabble Club meets the third Sunday of each month in Workshop 4, in conjunction with the Traditional Music Jams. Symphony offers holiday concert
MARQUETTE - The Marquette Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual "Sounds of the Holidays" concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 16. Featured will be guest conductors Janis Peterson and Steve Grugin, and local talent including soloist Elizabeth Grugin.
Symphony selections will include "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Russian Christmas Music," "Around the World at Christmas Time," "Stille Nacht," "Hanukkah Medley," "Star of Wonder" and "Bells of Christmas." The symphony also will present heartwarming newer classics including: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Babes in Toyland," "A Christmas Portrait" and "White Christmas."
Tickets are available at NMU EZ Ticket outlets with special holiday ticket pricing. Adult tickets cost $27 and may include one complimentary youth admission for those purchasing tickets in person at the Superior Dome. MARQUETTE - "A Very Special Christmas Concert" will feature Stan Wright, Caitlin Wright, Robert Buchkoe, Denise Dupras, Jack Bowers, and a children's chorus at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Peter White Library. Admission is by free-will offering to benefit the Room at the Inn program.
Recreation plan hearing slated
MARQUETTE - The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority has scheduled a public hearing on the adoption of their Five-Year Recreation Master Plan for 4:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Marquette Country Inn and Suites. A draft of the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority's new 5-Year Recreation Plan has been available for public inspection since Nov. 18. The public may provide comments through email, mail or by attending the public hearing.
