Manistique boys fall in last second

December 8, 2012
By Ogden Sports Staff , The Mining Journal

MANISTIQUE - It doesn't come down to the wire more than this one.

The Norway Knights led by one point with 10 seconds remaining in the game, and they were at the free throw line.

After the Knights missed the free throw, the Manistique Emeralds marched down court, got an open look, but it didn't fall.

Then, they had an opportunity to tip it back in and win the game, but that didn't go down either, and Norway narrowly escaped with the 48-47 victory.

"We showed a lot of improvement from the first game, but it was still a difficult loss," Manistique coach Todd Kangas said.

"We had leads in the third and fourth quarters. I'm disappointed we didn't get the win, but we showed some definite progress."

Tyler Kangas led the Emeralds (0-2 overall, 0-2 Mid-Peninsula Conference) with 18 points, including two 3-pointers. He was followed by teammate Coby Ryan with 10 points.

Norway (1-1, 1-0) was led by the Gravold boys: Austin notched 17 points, while John put up 13.
