Legion Bantams finish 1-2 in Silver Sticks tournament

MARQUETTE - The American Legion Bantam AA hockey team of Marquette went 1-2 in the Silver Sticks Regional Tournament in downstate Midland.

Coach Brian Nebel's team lost to Traverse City Pepsi AA, 3-1; beat the Suburban Stars, 3-1; and then suffered tourney elimination with a 2-0 defeat by the Jackson Generals AA.

Against Traverse City, Justin Hendrickson notched the lone Marquette goal, assisted by Kristian Jackson.

Travis Cameron made 41 saves in net for Marquette, while Nick Meier was forced to make only nine stops for T.C.

Tristan Ashbrook scored a goal and added an assist for Legion in the win over the Suburban Stars.

Chris LeMire and Jackson also tallied for the winners, with Justin Moyle, Branden Campbell and Hendrickson picking up helpers.

Legion netminder Jack Eyler came up with 16 stops; Maxim Denomme made 42 saves for the losers.

Against the Jackson Generals, Cameron made 37 stops for Marquette; Jake Baker 17 for the winners.
