Board candidate interviews set

December 3, 2012

ISHPEMING - The Ishpeming school board has scheduled a special meeting tonight to interview and discuss applicants for an empty seat on the board.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Ishpeming High School library.

Board member David Leverton's position was on the ballot for the November election, but no one ran for the seat so the board will appoint someone. The board asked interested residents of the district to apply for the position at its November meeting and posted the position.

Julie Perry and Kelly Wood, who sent in letters of interest, are scheduled to be interviewed at today's meeting.

"We were willing to interview as many applicants as applied but these were the only two that did so," Ishpeming Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Piereson said. "They (board members) may decided to make an appointment tonight or they can take a few days and hold off the appointment until next week during the regular board meeting. Either way the appointment has to be made soon."

There will be a public comment period before and after the interviews. If someone wants to suggest a question for the applicants that they would like the board to consider asking, they can do so during the first public comment session, Piereson said.

Adelle Whitefoot can be reached at 906-486-4401.
