Marquette Township fire claims one life

MARQUETTE - Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Township post were investigating a fatal mobile home fire this morning in Marquette Township.

Marquette Township Fire Department firefighters were called to the scene by a neighbor at 5:12 a.m. When fire crews arrived at the home in the 2200 block of Moran Street, they found the residence ablaze.

The blaze was extinguished by fire crews.

"It was discovered that there was a victim inside," said Michigan State Police Sgt. Kevin Dowling.

As of press time, the gender of the victim had not been determined. Police, however, said they think the person who died in the fire was an adult.

A state police fire investigator was expected to survey the scene of the blaze later this morning.
