MARQUETTE, MI. - Clara Mae Christensen, age 95, of 1028 S. Lake Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday afternoon, November 25, 2012, at her home, in the loving, comforting care of her family and Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Born August 2, 1917 in Marquette, a daughter of Randall and May Ila (Simar) Black, Clara was a 1936 graduate of the Graveraet High School and a lifelong Marquette resident. On June 29, 1940, Clara married Lawrence "Red" Christensen in St. Peter Cathedral and together the couple established their home and raised three children. Throughout the years, in addition to being a wife and mother, Clara was employed as a salesclerk and later as a receptionist for various doctors in the Marquette area. She retired in 1977. Clara loved being a homemaker, caring for her family and her interests included walking and reading. For many years she belonged to a neighborhood sewing circle on South Lake Street. She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the cathedral's altar society.
Clara is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Christensen of Marquette; sons, Gary (Becky) Christensen of Harvey and Larry (Bobbie) Christensen of LaJolla, CA; her grandchildren, Ross (Jamie) Christensen, David (Billie) Christensen, and Katie Lynn (fiance, Elliott Bruinekool) Christensen; great-grandchildren, John, Thomas, and Clara Christensen; step-grandchildren, Kayla Seelig, Kelsey (Dan) Zeug, and Michael (Lee) Seelig; and step-great granddaughter, Kristen Finch; her brother, Randall (Margaret) Black of Escanaba; sister-in-law, Elsie Christensen of Marquette; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1995; sisters, Blanche Christensen and husband, Julius; and Ruth Grace and husbands, Clyde Parker and William "Bud" Grace; and brothers, James Black and wife, Millie, George Black and wife, Sabina, Frank Black and wife, Tiny.
Friends may call at the Bishop's Room located at St. Peter Cathedral on Thursday, November 29, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the cathedral at 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber, pastor, as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Ross, David, Brock, and Max Christensen, Elliott Bruinekool, and Jerry Gryc. A reception will follow in Cathedral Hall. Spring burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
